Day 30: Here She Comes… (And Her Name is Captain Berto! :))

March 9, 2006

We must have made the day of the fishermen of Trujillo by showing up at the "muelle" (little local wharf) at dawn looking for cargo boats to Roatan :) First of all, the little wharf turned out to be the one and only "port" of Trujillo (we hoped there was one more which we didn't find last night - what about those boats to Jamaica???) Second, we found out there might be some unscheduled boats leaving for Roatan some day… Maybe Juan will go there next month, and perhaps he could take a few passengers, if you guys agreed to sit on sacks of tomatoes and potatoes, and share the room with several piglets…
We didn't even mention the car…:)

All in all, it looked like a good time to get back to Michelle & Gianluca in La Ceiba, where our friends had done a much better job - they managed to find a cargo boat which would take both cars to Roatan for USD 400 round trip! "Captain Berto" was the name of the miracle, and although she wasn't going to leave La Ceiba until Monday, we all decided that it was well worth the wait. After all, wasting time on the Caribbean beaches while waiting for Monday is not the worst thing that could happen! :)

Little town, little port, little cargo boats...

Trujillo

Mazas miestelis - mazas uostelis, mazi krovininiai laiveliai

This one is especially for our friend Dima - didn't know you had a business in Honduras :)

30-oji diena: Sviesa tunelio gale

2006 m. kovo 9

Prie romantiskojo lieptelio buvom pirmieji "klientai". Kita ryta gal butumem netgi pastebeje nuostabu Karibu sauleteki, bet siandien - ne tas galvoj. Kur laivai I Roatana??? Apsnude zvejai nelabai supranta, ko is ju norim. - Kokio dar kito uosto? O kuo sitas per prastas?? Prasom neizeidineti!

Supratom ir dar viena dalyka - "bote de cargo" (krovininis laivas) vietiniu supratimu nebutinai yra didziulis, tvirtas laivas. Net ir pati maziausia valtele yra vadinama krovininiu laivu, jeigu ji naudojama ne zvejybai ar dar kam nors, o daiktu transportavimui is tasko A I taska B :)

Chuanui ir jo parseliams I Roatana teks plaukti be musu, o mums laikas grizti I La Ceiba pas Michelle ir Gianluca, kuriems siryt daug labiau pasiseke - vienas is parplaukusiu laivu, vardu "Captain Berto", sutiko perkelti abi masinas uz $400.
