Day 1: Bienvenidos a Mexico
February 8, 2006
The mileage on the Nissan at the time of departure from home: 75,940 miles
Hard to believe but it looks like we are finally ready to hit the road!
At around 2PM, the Mexican car insurance and a bunch of other time-consuming
little things being taken care of, the Nissan gets its last American gas
in San Diego, and about 10 minutes later, we cross the Mexican border. Leaving
our I-94's was quite an experience (I-94 is your departure record which
they staple into your passport when you enter the States, and it's a must
to leave it at the Customs when leaving the country). Since the border from
the US side is almost non-existent, nobody understands why we refuse to
proceed but insist on leaving some strange little inserts from our passports.
One nice Mexican officer even plays the Lithuanian National Anthem for us
on his computer. We offer to sing along :) Finally they send us back to
the US Customs. So we park our Nissan in Mexico and walk back to the States,
and again try to give our I-94's to the very first US Customs officer we
meet. He agrees to collect the forms from us and quite a funny conversation
follows:
"When are you coming back to the US?"
"Never"
"Never??!!" - followed by a suspicious glance - "Was it that
bad??!"
No, dear officer, it was not bad at all. It was actually unbelievably good
and lots of fun. But the world is so big, and we have so little time :)
At 7:30PM it gets completely dark and we make our first stop in a little town of San Quintin. The goal of the day was El Rosario, but the luxurious motel "Maria Celeste" compensates for the remaining 30 miles. They even have Internet! what means that tomorrow morning we will be able to upload the news for you guys.
Keep reading to find out while it wasn't meant to happen

1-oji diena: Bienvenidos a Mexico
2006m. vasario 8
Nissano kilometrazas isvaziuojant is namu: 75,940 myliu/121,504km
Keistas jausmas zinoti, kad nebegrisim. Atsisveikindami su Krista (kuri
9 val ryto isejo is darbo "pietaut" ir atleke su mumis praleisti
paskutiniuju amerikoniskuju akimirku) ir (dabar jau Kristos) kambarioku
Dzimu stengiames nezliumbt. Beveik nei vienam nepasiseka. Vis tik smagiai
mes cia visi gyvenom
Chebra, tikiuosi jus dabar Gypsy Den'e apie ta
pati dumojat :)
nera labai lengva! Muitine pietu kryptimi beveik neegzistuoja (nelabai egzistuoja
ir priesinga kryptimi, taciau ten bent jau sustabdo ir papraso kokio dokumento.)
Imigracijos dokumentus susitvarkom greitai ir neskausmingai, netgi gaunam
pasiklausyti Lietuvos himno, aciu linksmajam Meksikos pasienieciui. Pasisiulom
himna pagiedot. Linksmasis pasienietis sako "aciu, nereikia".
Mums juokinga. Dar juokingiau, kada turim pestute gristi I JAV, kam nors
taves JAV nebera. Paprastai I-94 is taves pareikalaujama, taciau Meksikos
pasieny viskas kitaip. Einam per tilteli atgal I JAV) Paciam pirmam sutiktam
JAV pasienieciui brukam tas savo I-94, jis klausia - "Kada grisit I
Jungtines Valstijas?" Mes sakom - "Niekada". Pasienietis
stipriai suskaude pilva: "Niekada??!! Ar jums cia buvo taip blogai??!!"
Ne, gerbiamas pasienieti, blogai tikrai nebuvo. Buvo netgi labai gerai,
bet
pasaulis per didelis, o laiko per mazai.
7:30 vakaro.
Apsistojame puikiausiame
motelyje San Quintin miestelyje. Dienos tikslas buvo El Rosario, bet motelio
puikumas kompensuoja neiveiktus 58 km, o galimybe gauti interneta pakyleja
ant sparnu - proga pirmajam reportazui (gal butent siai dienai taupytas
gero kalifornietisko vyno butelis irgi kazkiek prie bendros nuotaikos prisidejo
:)
Motelis, beje, vadinosi Maria Celeste, US$33. Gal kas nors kada ieskosit,
kur apsistoti nakciai San Quintin'e
Gyvenimas, staiga, ir vel labai grazus. Svarbiausia - idomus: cia dar nesam
buve!!
pries akis. Labanakt.
